Fixture Mapping
💡 In one sentence: Mapping teaches Fluxor to use the families from your template — you set it up once, and every Automatic Routing comes out with your own fixtures.
What it does
Fluxor's routing engine already knows all the plumbing: where the pipe, the elbow, the valve and the drain box go. What changes from one office to another are the families. The Mapping panel is where you tell it which family from your template fulfils each function — "this is my floor drain box", "this is my gate valve".
The mapping is saved on your computer, per template (not per project). Opened another job created from the same template? Fluxor already recognizes everything — nothing to redo.
When to use it
Before running Automatic Routing for the first time with your family library, or when some fixture is not being identified correctly during routing.
How to use it
- Open the Mapping panel (Revit's Fluxor tab). The first time, Fluxor already creates an active template for you — just get started. The New… / Rename… / Delete buttons are for those who work with more than one family library (one profile for each).
- Click ✨ Autodetect. Fluxor scans the model and matches families to functions automatically. In the Template roles list, what it found turns green; what is missing stays grey. In seconds, most of the work is done.
- Fill in the grey ones manually. Select the role, choose the family in the Family field of the fixture in your model — the search works like in Revit: type and the list filters instantly. Choose the Type, check the fixture preview and the function of each connector in the diagram (Fluxor already suggests them; you just confirm). Click Save fixture.
- Missing a family in your template? Use the Import family button (or the Import tab): Fluxor's library brings ready-made families from Amanco, Docol, Tigre and generic Fluxor fixtures (wall, floor and other situations), organized by manufacturer and category — and it receives frequent updates. Drag the family into Revit and it shows up in the mapping right away.
💡 Tip: you do not need to import everything up front — if a fixture is missing at routing time, Fluxor tells you which one it is and takes you straight to the setting you need.
Do I have to redo the mapping for every project?
No. The mapping belongs to the template, not to the project. You only come back to the panel when:
- you adopt a new library (create another profile in New… and run Autodetect);
- a specific project does not have some family loaded (import it from the Import tab);
- you switch computers (the mapping is local).
Prerequisites
- Plumbing families loaded in the project (valves, elbows, tees, floor drain boxes, drains and pipes) — or available in the Fluxor Library.
- Knowing which families the office uses for the critical fixtures: drain boxes/drains, valves and mixers/single-lever taps.

Common errors
